School of Nursing

About the School

The mission of the School of Nursing is to provide quality nursing education to promote health and provide care to culturally diverse urban and global communities through research, scholarship and service.

The School offers accredited programs leading to the  Master of Science (MS) and the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)  degrees. The School also offers a post-Master’s advanced certificate program. Graduates of all of these programs are prepared to make significant contributions to the health of diverse urban populations.

The MS program educates nurses for roles as gerontological/adult nurse practitioners (NPs), psychiatric/mental health NPs, adult clinical nurse specialists, and community/public health and nurse administrators. The post-master’s certificate program prepares psychiatric/mental health NPs. The DNP program offers concentrations for Adult/Gerontological NPs, Family NPs, Psychiatric/Mental Health NPs andCommunity/Public Health Nurses.

Graduates meet the educational requirements for national board certification in their specialties. The MS and DNP programs at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation).

In addition, a PhD program in Nursing is offered by the City University of New York Graduate Center in conjunction with Hunter College, Lehman College, and The College of Staten Island.
